Raf Simons studied furniture design in 1991, after working
as a furniture designer for a period he switched his attention to clothing. Raf
Simons launched his self-named Raf Simons clothing label in 1995. After some
success with the label, Simons became disillusioned with the business side of
fashion, took a sabbatical.
He was then persuaded back into fashion in 2001, and has since been named Head
of Design at Jil Sander in (2005). The Raf by Raf Simons clothing
diffusion line was launched to offer his followers a more affordable, wearable
collection, taking inspiration from his celebrated mainline collection.
